Understanding Mental Health

Mental health refers to a person’s ability to function and cope with daily life and the challenges that may arise, without becoming overwhelmed.

Part of maintaining good mental health includes having healthy emotional awareness. This means being able to understand your emotions, regulate how you respond to situations and develop a good understanding of yourself.

By learning to recognise our emotions and understand our reactions, we are better able to manage the stresses that naturally occur within both our working and personal lives.

Being able to recognise when someone may be struggling is also an important skill — whether that person is a colleague, a fellow student or even yourself.

💬 “In this profession we often spend our days lifting others up. Learning to check in with yourself is just as important.”
